Kate ♪
"Are you... like a superhero? Like a real life one?" It's a hushed question. :The things you do, when you keep watch at night—" Maybe another reason why he wears the mask, other than to hide the face he doesn't like. "Is that what you are?"
Something shifted in Rorschach then. Before his desire to protect Kate had just been something nebulous, the same way it was for anyone else in town. Now it was more specific. A girl pure as this needed someone to watch out for her, especially in a town with a predominantly male population. He was going to be that person for her, though he'd never explicitly say that out loud.
A young lady who has a melancholy to her I have yet to get to the bottom of, though what bits and pieces I've learned is horrific in nature. No wonder she has sad eyes. Why is it those who are actually chaste and good in nature who must be made to suffer? Kate is possibly the only person in this town I can stand to be around for any great length of time. We have an understanding of one another: she's fine with my frequent silences and inability to truly communicate what goes on in my mind while I let her tell me only what she wants me to know without pressing for more. At first I was skeptical her gentle, kind nature was the truth of her character and not an act. I say now it certainty she is what she appears to be, a pure young woman, which makes her about as rare as blue roses naturally growing in a garden.
March ♪
March doesn't bother to hide his widening eyes, and he holds both hands up as if showing Rorschach there's no weapon in them will somehow placate the beast. Wrong line of questioning. Or right line, maybe, depending on things. It's definitely not something March is going to press when the guy already hates his guts. Either way: extreme hostility noted.
Was this guy for real? Rorschach wasn't sure what was weirder, the fact that he'd clearly found the village idiot or that the tune he was trying to sing sounded vaguely familiar.
Every village needs an idiot and I have discovered him. The saying goes that God watches over little children and idiots, and while the former part might be false, I can say with confidence the latter is certainly correct. It's the only way that explains his continued existence in this place when he spends half of his time drunk and the other half of the time making brainless remarks that require no thought at all. I would have killed him by now were it not for the fact he clearly has no true malice within him for all that he possesses three braincells.
Bigby ♪
Under different circumstances the man's face - or, well, more like face situation, considering that mask - would have been eerie too. But considering some of the stuff Bigby is used to, whatever the other has got going on isn't too strange to him. Seems like the standard of some random Fables off their glamour, honestly.
Rorschach didn't say anything in regards to Bigby apparently being weird about dogs. His measure for what constituted "normal behavior" in people was so skewed as to be unable to truly know what average people acted like. Maybe all people were like this. So it went without comment.
A rough character who has a strange personality. He's got a better head on his shoulders than half the people here. I feel he'd be able to take care of himself if someone (or something, with how strange things are around here) picked a fight with him. There's something about him that reminds me of the denizens of New York that would gather in the neighborhood bars. Tough sorts drinking to forget or to remember, each with their own stories, but none willing to share. Figuring out what's going on beneath his surface might require a bit of time.
Levi ♪
Sometimes he managed to get some alone time, but other times people talking (especially to him) was too much.
Rorschach, though, was quiet. And not a people person either. So it seemed likely that it'd be peaceful near the other man. He sits down, a few arms lengths away from the other man. He nods if acknowledged, but doesn't say anything.
"Death is for the weak." At least in a place like this it was. The dangers here provided by the weather and environment were just as bad as the ones that appeared to be supernatural in nature. If you were strong, you survived. If not, you perished. [...]
"Don't think you are weak." A rare compliment from the vigilante. He didn't give them out lightly and only spoke the truth when he did.
Another teenager in this place, although this one appears to have come from a rough place. (And time? And...world? The way people end up here and where they come from is something I'm still investigating.) He's got himself put together enough not to need someone constantly watching over him, although I've found myself teaming up with him several times now when one of us is in peril or needs someone to watch the other's back. He's got some skeletons in his closet. Talking to him in the dark made that clear enough. The darkness often does that for those that have lost their innocence, loosening tongues to spew something close to the truth. As for me? I listen as I always do, only talking back when I have something to actually say.
Louis De Pointe Du Lac♪
Now he is seized with a burning curiosity to know what lies beneath the mask. It's quite the opposite situation to Louis's. Louis wore a mask, figuratively, to hide his true nature. He still keeps a few up his sleeve and alternates between them when speaking to people in Milton. If what he says is true, Rorschach puts one on to reveal his true face.
Two things struck Rorschach. The first, which he tamped back down into the back of his mind as soon as he could, was that he was very pretty. [...] That made something old and rusty with disuse start up for a moment in the back of his mind, a certain sense of want he wasn't sure he could define, not even to himself. But he ignored it. If he just didn't pay it any attention, it would eventually go away.
An exceptionally pretty man. What beautiful eyes.He sees far more than I would like him to.Encountering him at the hot springs was an exceptionally awkward first meeting. He strikes me as a bit effeminate in nature and there's a look in his eyes which makes me feel he's hiding something important. (Possibly homosexual? I'll need to keep an eye on him for longer before drawing any conclusions.) But aren't we all? I'll get to the bottom of it sooner or later. Secrets don't stay secret for long in a small town or so the saying goes.
Update: He's a vampire. (Still possibly homosexual too.) There's a sentence I never thought I would be writing. At least it makes sense. No one that good looking could possibly be human. I'm sure he bewitched me with some strange unnatural vampire power. It would explain the thoughts I have had about him. I must have been insane to let him drink from me, even if there was no other way out of our predicament. I won't let such a loss of control from me happen again.
La'an ♪
"What should I call you?" Not what his name is, or what others call him. What does he want her to call him. For someone who understands the significance of names, it's an important distinction.
La'an seemed competent and smart, two things that others here were sorely lacking. He'd wanted to make sure someone like that hadn't simply wandered off into the wilderness to die the way he'd suspected some of the others who were missing had done
There's a strength within in her which I have seen few women possess. It doesn't diminish her femininity but instead simply compliments the good qualities she already has. She would have made a good vigilante had she been born at the right time for such a thing to be possible. I don't feel like I need to protect her as much as some here. I'd feel comfortable with her having my back in a fight and that's another rare quality to find among anyone, let alone in a place like this.
